Edappal: Students of the Secondary Section of Ideal English School (CBSE), Kadakassery, took the initiative to find scientific solutions to waste management issues on the school campus.

The presentation of the “Waste Audit Challenge Project”, organized with the message “Reduce Waste, Save the Future,” was held in the school seminar hall. Rinsha Mujeeb, a Grade 9 student, led the programme. She highlighted the importance of proper waste management and the need to create awareness among students.

Senior Principal Firoz F., CBSE Principal Priya Aravind, Secondary Section Headmaster Bindu Mohan, UP Section Headmaster Usha Krishnakumar, and Scout In-charge P. P. Hussain addressed the gathering.

Four student teams presented their findings through PowerPoint presentations based on waste audits conducted in classrooms, the school ground, the seminar hall, boys’ and girls’ restrooms, and the staff room. The report explained the sources of waste generation on the campus and identified shortcomings in the existing waste management system.

The audit revealed that food waste is the major waste management challenge in the school. To address this issue, the students announced a one-year action plan.

The major recommendations included:

* Installing separate food waste bins in every section.
* Forming student teams to conduct weekly waste audits.
* Observing a “Zero Waste Day” every month.

Students Karthik M. V., Mohammed Shan, Fathima Hisana, Marva Jafar, Adidev K. P., Ranjeev C. V., Niya P. T., and Sahla Naser submitted the project report to the evaluation committee.

The teachers appreciated the students’ efforts and urged everyone to work together towards maintaining a clean, green, and sustainable campus.
